Aug 14, 2017 · On Power Lists in Savage Worlds Hoo, it's been a while. I'm hoping to start posting more of my general Savage Worlds design thoughts here alongside the usual character builds, but seeing as the builds business has been slow recently I figured this is as good a return to form as any.
I would like to keep the following 18 skills from the original list: Academics, Athletics, Fighting, Healing, Intimidation, Languages, Notice, Occult, Performance, Persuasion, Repair, Research, Science, Shooting, Stealth, Survival, Taunt and Thievery.
It's against the theme of the game. Savage Worlds isn't about a long list of fine minutiae and specific skills but generic skills that allow characters to be described simply, putting more focus on the character's style rather than his sheet. There are sword or axe or brawling or wrestling skills …
Apr 10, 2014 · The power level in Savage Worlds is much flatter, so if you take Bolt as a Novice it'll still be just as useful at Legendary. As a result, spells tends to differ in terms of flavour rather than power, which is where trappings come in - and Savage Worlds leaves the trappings up to the player, rather than listing predefined spells.
Sep 29, 2009 · We kept the skill list, but we only use about 6 skills regularly, the rest being relegated to specific situations or characters. Really, what's kept us most excited about Savage Worlds has been the innovative resolution mechanic: Target Number 4, which you can attempt on a variety of polyhedral dice based on your relevant skill.

Here are the rules for my 4 attribute version of Savage Worlds. Reasons for this house rule: First of all, in a mechanical sense, I don’t think that it’s very balanced to make a character who is tough and brawny have to raise twice the number of attributes over a character who wants to be smart and witty (smarts), resolute and Inspiring (spirit), or fast and nimble (agility).
Savage Worlds Kickstarter: “Core Skills” Rules Preview! With just two weeks to go until the Kickstarter gates open wide for the new Savage Worlds: Adventure Edition, here’s another sneak peek of what’s in store from Pinnacle Entertainment Group President, Shane Hensley: Core Skills
All the skills in the book pretty much fill out everything you'll need ever, outside of Arcane Background skills, and maybe a Performance skill for playing instruments or singing, as an example. Honestly, what makes a character isn't what die type they have in their skills: it's their Edge list, and any non-Edge special abilities one can gain ...
Dec 30, 2019 · Savage Worlds skills are by default broad based and Repair is the skill a craftsperson uses to create as well as repair with. I typically keep with the broad based approach to skills when I homebrew with SW, but I have at times found the need to focus a few skills. My approach is to never change or add more than 5 skills, so there needs to be a ...
Savage Worlds are very broad. You don’t have to take Fighting for your sword, dagger, dirk, and axe—Fighting covers it all. Remember, this is a game of Fast! Furious! Fun! Don’t worry though—you’ll have plenty of ways to customize your character with Edges. Each die type in a skill costs 1 point up to the linked attribute.

From my experience (two Savage Worlds campaigns, Empire of Ashes and Legends of Steel), the wizard was the massive heavy artillery without a lot of weak points. The main issue was how easy it was to arrange your Edges so you were never losing Power Points (I forget how our wizard players worked it, but as long as they got a good roll they didn't lose the points).
